I will change Zanzibar for Zulu in rough conditions with good results and almost always use United vs Uniform. So I guess I can't take my own advice!  Grin

Don't operate your ham rig, or your computer, if you've been drinking.

Well there goes Field Day.

WZ7U,

Quote
I would include Q codes on phone and the ever ridiculous hihi for laughter. If it's funny, then laugh; don't be a good buddy about it.

Sixty years ago, there were comments in various UK amateur radio magazines saying exactly that! So it is hardly a new phenomena.....but that doesn't make Q codes and 'hihi' right, though Q codes may be easier for a non-English native language speaker.

Yes, Q codes are almost a necessity for folks who English is a second language. I was thinking more about the guys on phone for who English is a first language that are trying to sound "ham". Like I said, if you're going to laugh, just do it. Saying hihi makes you sound like a good buddy.

When I listen on the air now I hear a variation of both old school and different things.  I personally could care less if you say hihi on phone it happens a lot or just hi for a laugh.  Most all of these short "codes" are for CW not phone we all know this don't we?

Listen have fun and remember it's a hobby.  Not pro radio but Amateur radio.

KB2CRK why would you say this as your  signature after every post.  You smile when you push people down a flight of stairs?
