I do not understand why ham has a negative connotation.

Only among practicing Jews and Muslims.

Vegans aren't especially happy with 'em.

Vegans aren't...

I forgot about them, and vegetarians also.

But they say that pigs like ham--they have a lot in common.

Maybe he meant "Gnu Year" and his spell checker fixed it for him.

I never tell anyone I am a ham because it leaves a negative impression. First of all people will suspect you will interfere with their television reception if you live nearby. Second the word implies a bent at best or a compulsion at worst and a non professional compulsion like a eccentric relative or neighbor who moved years ago unexpectedly

I just tell people I am a technician, engineer and will be down in the Covar Valley on a job.

I don't mention radio whatsoever because that opens up another can of worms....illegal operation, pirate radio, religious fanatic, political nut.

Never post as a ham online so everyone knows your home address. Think most hams are nice? You must be a newbie or deceived. Friends are only people you've know very well for a long time.

You will save much grief if you follow my advice.

Dave
Electrical engineer

For what it's worth I agree with you Dave.

The folks in my neighborhood that know about ham radio are very rare any more.  Most reside in the cemetery.  Most of the current residents think that the yagi on my tower is for receiving TV from the UK or Canada.  Millennial's only know about their pricey cell phone and social media.

I like Millennials. They are so bad at math. They just get frustrated and give me back too much change. If you own a business never put a Millennial on the cash register.

Never put a Baby Boomer in charge of your email.  They'll send half their pension to Nigeria, and add 13 search bars to your web browser.

Want to cripple the millennial generation?  Change all fonts to cursive and make all cars with manual transmissions.

They’ll look it up on YouTube and figure it out in about 10 minutes.  Wanna cripple baby boomers? Ask them to show a basic level of respect to service workers.

Get back to work, McDonald’s is paying you to work and my stock will go down if you’re not productive.
