Kenwood TS-440- no antenna tuner. No DNR
Kenwood TS-450- IF filter blow by issue. No antenna tuner. No DNR
Kenwood TS-850- failures noted. No antenna tuner. No DNR.

So scrub those Kenwood ideas with a $900 budget.

Obvious answer is for $99 more get a new ICOM IC-7300.

sets bet. coffee is winning bet..
sorry when u dont buy a 7300... a 991a is junk. nothing but issues all i read ...
if i could sell this 897 i have.. i would get a 7300..
icom slamed it over the green monster all the way into iceland.. its a damn good radio...

ico 718 is not worth the money its a barebones radio for a midevil price...

7300 is the way to go....

and if i forgot to say ... 7300....

FT-991A is not junk, it is a fine trouble free radio.

Actually each of those rigs does have a version with an Autotuner in it.

Here are under $900 contenders.

Kenwood TS-480SAT
Yaesu FTDX-1200
Yaesu FT891
Alinco DX-SR9T
Alinco DX-SR8T
Icom IC-7100
Icom IC-718
Take the FTdx1200 off the list. Discontinued now and the few stores that still have them have raised the price to $979 or same cost as the stellar IC-7300.
