I'll add another recommendation for the 880.  It is an amazing radio for its size and cost.  I had none of the "ssb" issues as the fix had been slipstreamed into production when I bought mine.  The battery, 18650, is about as mainstream as AAs.  It's used in a bunch of stuff, especially all those "tactical" flashlights.  I've got a couple of spares that are rated at 3200mA and these last about 70 hours each in the radio.  Get the button top type and a nitecore charger and you can't miss.

I just got an 880 and it is, by far, the best portable I have owned. It has 8820 firmware and is excellent on ssb, which is almost all I listen to.
