carrying a Panasonic BF-B45 while remote traveling in the 80's as the only means for news (who currently hated the US).

I also remember freezing in bed in an unheated pension in the mountains of Turkey and listening to a learning English program targeted to Asia on the BEEB. The write in question was "what is the difference between affluent and effluent?" After a brief explanation they used them in a single sentence:

"The effluent from the affluent part of town was of high quality"

Maybe the postman of the day delivered the letter to the wrong neighbor’s house. Hopefully they have better procedure nowadays.

Do you still have the RF-B45, that is the question. The are excellent radios. I think they came out in the 1990's, though.

Maybe you were referring to the Panasonic RF-B65? They also are apparently excellent radios, and came out in the late 1980's.

I got my RF-B45 in 1996, and while recuperating from an operation I was listening to the BBC during Princess Diana's funeral (1997), live via SW, using that radio (and a 20 ft. wire).

I still can hear, in my head, Elton John playing the new version of Candle In The Wind. All live. It was one of those strange, but memorable Shortwave moments.

Of course, now the BBC no longer broadcasts to North America on SW, propagation is horrific compared to the late 1990's, the bands have less activity -- I still use the RF-B45, however, to DX MW at night.
