A friend of mine called yesterday asking for advice on replacing the cooling fan in his AL-80B.  He prefers to do it himself, if possible, to avoid the risks and hassles associated with shipping the amplifier back to Ameritron.  However, he told me it appears impossible to remove the old fan using ordinary tools.  Has anyone out there done this successfully?  Any hints or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks & 73,

Impossible using ordinary tools?

My AL-80B's fan is held in place by plastic push-in expansion pins that cost about two cents each.  Break them, and get new ones.  Or, once they're out, replace them with regular hardware (machine screws, lockwashers, nuts)...

Maybe they built these different ways over the years...

Okay, Steve.  I'll pass along the info to my friend.  I didn't have time to go over there yesterday and look at his amp, and I didn't want to disconnect mine and inspect it.

Tnx & 73,
Chuck
