Neil,
All the PSK31 engines that I have seen or heard about were written for a 32 bit environment. There are DOS programs out there for BPSK, but they are not what you are looking for. The PSK31 programs were written around FFT decoding and a fast waterfall or spectrum tuning display. These features require the Win95 or better platform. Hopefully you can find another use for the 486. ;-)

Or you could upgrade software/ram/disk.

I have successfully installed Windows 98 on a 486 DX2-66 with 28 meg ram and a 6.4 gb HDD.

AND it runs.  Reasonably well.  I keep the overhead to a minimum but it runs STS Orbit Plus quite nicely.

I have no doubt that it will also run the soundcard-mode software reasonably well too.  I plan on it being my dedicated HAM computer.  The ghz+ machine is my work/play computer.
