Anybody doing digital audio on VHF or UHF?  I'm looking at the DR620 with the digital option.  Question is - is the Alinco digital radio a standard digital format?  Are there any other radios that it will talk to?  Is it the same format as the Icom D-Star?  Is it on standard 25 kHz channels?

It is a compressed digital format which is different from their earlier Digital format that is in the DJ596 and DR135/235/425 line of radio's.  It is based on an open code format that is in the public domain from europe.  The radio works on any frequency in the 146/440 band on 5Khz frequency spacings.  It sounds like an open squelch if you listen to it on an analog radio.  No it is not compitable with any other brand, one of the problems when you are the first kid on the block with a new toy and the standards committee is out to lunch.
