(I originally posted this on 'Elmers' but then found this page.)
I have a small, cheap Lenovo laptop running Windows 8 software.  I downloaded Digipan so I could decode PSK31 transmissions.
I don't seem able to get audio into the laptop.  It has a combined 4-pole jack for a headset.  I can get audio out, and hear good level warbling if I put Digipan into TX mode, but I see nothing on the waterfall display when I feed audio from my radio's headphone jack.  I am using a splitter to separate the audio in/out.
Some people have agreed that they can't seem to get audio into their laptops and suggested I buy a USB soundcard instead of wrestling with it.
Any advice gratefully received.

Jonathan, M5AEO.

Those ridiculously cheap USB sound cards work surprisingly well. I used one for SSTV for a while and it worked great. I think this is the one I have:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-USB-2-0-to-3D-Mic-Speaker-5-1-Audio-Sound-Card-Adapter-359-UK-/350738158853?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_SoundCards&hash=item51a99f9505

I haven't used it on Windows 8 but it works perfectly on Windows 7 64-bit.

EDIT: I don't think that eBay seller is the one I purchased from, but the product looks the same. Might be worth finding a seller with less negative feedback ...
