Friend : Ed "Whitey" Mileshosky (W5RMY)

Ed "Whitey" Mileshosky, my grandfather, was licensed as W5RMY back into the 50's and 60's, through the 80's when he let his license lapse. After obtaining my first license in 1992, he surprised me by studying up and getting his once again! For a few years his callsign was KB5SXB, then he obtained his original callsign W5RMY through the vanity program.

Ed was active on 80 through 10 meters, 2 meters and 70 centimeters. He enjoyed operating digital modes, including packet, CW and voice. He was involved in Navy-Marine MARS under the callsign NNN0JIG, and always checked into the New Mexico Roadrunner Net, the Colorado High Noon Net, the California-Hawaiian Net, and more. Ed volunteered well over 1,000 hours of his time at the Albuquerque ARC's club station N5VA located at the Albuquerque Veterans Administration hospital, where he ran the nation's VA net. He was also excited to go to any Hamfest he could while he was licensed.

Some of the special thoughts we shared included our two trips to the Ft. Tuthill (Flagstaff) Hamfest, as well as operating his Kenwood TS-520S in his garage prior to setting up his shack in his house.

73 and 88, Grandpa.
