I met Frank on 2 meters (147.210) one night about 10 years ago. As I was scanning the band, his signal, on the input, was full scale. I asked him his QTH, it turned out that he lived a few blocks away, and after chatting for a while, I discovered that I went to high school with his son Frank. Frank an I became good friends, as I was new to Amateur Radio, he helped me out a lot with different aspects of the hobby. Frank helped me learn Morse Code, we would go to a simplex frequency on 2 meters, and have QSO's in M-CW. I was never very good with CW, but Frank persisted. He went with me to the VE session where I took my 5 wpm test, I think he was more excited than I was, when I told him that I had passed.
With the passing of Frank’s wife, Chickie - N2GRE, He lost interest in Amateur Radio. Although, each time I stop in to visit him, he would ask about the guy's on the radio, and generally the topic of conversation would drift towards radio.
Frank was a genuine friend, and will be missed dearly.
