Dick Eckhardt was an amazing
person in many ways. In his Junior
year of the engineering program at
Lehigh he was struck down with
polio that left him in an iron lung for
two years and a quadraplegic for life.
Despite this severe handicap, Dick
got his ham license and had a
successful business running
Eckhardt Electronics in Denville, NJ.
He married a wonderful woman,
Barbara, travelled the country, grew
orchids, built amazing models,
carved birds (using 1 1/2 functional
hands supported by motorized
slings), and elmered me through
Extra. Dick succumbed to
pnuemonia this month, and left a
good group of friends on the AT&T
net in NJ. He taught us all
something about not giving up.
Thanks Dick! 73, SK.
