Charlie had a lot to do with my sustained interest in the hobby. He took me to my first radio club meeting (San Francisco Radio Club) and introduced me to the local ham community. I was only 15 at the time, and he would always pick me up and take me to the meetings. He had a nice station, too which consisted of a Drake TR4C and a three element beam. He was partial to code and worked a ton of DX. I recall that he had an elaborate and organized QSL card and logging system. Guess he died of old age and life went on. Years later, after the Vanity Call system was implemented, his son requested issuance of his call and now has it. Lives at the same house, too! Here's to fond memories, Charlie. Thanks for being my Elmer.
