Friend : Norman A. Witherell (K1BKS)

Norman was my Grandfather. He passed away a couple of days ago. I felt it was important to post an entry here because HAM Radio was such a huge part of his life. After decades on the air, perhaps someone here may remember him.

He was an electronics technician who had been a radio operator in the Army Air Forces during World War II. This is where his love of radio began.

He attended AAFTS Radio School in Chicago. He was also a graduate of Massachusetts Radio School in Boston.

As long as I can remember, he always had a microphone in his hand. He had always hoped that I would pick up the HAM 'bug' but unfortunatley, I find my interest in HAM peaking, now that he is gone.

Thanks for the memories, Grandpa...

Norm was my friend and Elmer. I purchased his old Swan 500C as my first ham rig. I often heard him on the local repeater on the weekend as was his custom to call when he was out shopping with his YL. There is a big empty space out there since his passing.
