Dale was, without a doubt, the most adept
CW operator I ever met. Copying three,
40wpm DX signals simultaneously clearly
demonstrated his obvious skills picked up
as a Merchant Marine shipboard radio
operator. Dale operated an electronics
store and repair shop for nearly 30 years in
Gold Beach, Oregon. I had the pleasure of
accompanying him on many service calls
and he had virtually memorized every single
TV or radio he ever worked on and could
rattle off its complete repair history as well
as the engineering weaknesses present in
any given model. In his later years, he
developed macular degeneration and it
finally progressed to the point where
blindness forced him to give up his beloved
ham radio... and he succumbed at 82 of
cancer. He also held the callsign: KD7JW.
Dale was my elmer... and pal!
