Donald C. Castle, WB5FHA, 69, of Coldwater, Mississippi, died Thursday, April 1 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Don was a retired supervisor for Chromcraft, a veteran of the Air Force who served in Athens, Greece and Wheelis AB, Libya, and an active member of Antioch Church of Christ. Services were Monday, April 5 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia with interment in Palestine Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Ruth Castle; a daughter, Christie Voss of Cecotah, Okla.; a son, Steve Castle of Coldwater; and five grandchildren.
He recently passed his advanced class license. During his time in the Air Force, he was a morse intercept operator, and had logged a top key speed of 88 wpm. Over the past few years, afterefects of a stroke had hindered his key but not his enthusiasm for radio. My uncle influenced his nephews to enlist in the Air Force as radio repairmen, and I went on to join him as a amateur. He is missed, but not forgotten.
