Friend : Ron Ivy (N4UCA)

Ron was a special Spirit. He never met a stranger, and would accomodate anyone. He drove a big rig for Fed-Ex, and I drove for Yellow Freight out of Atlanta. We operated on two meters and ran to Memphis, TN together for a couple of years. We ran out of Atlanta late at night, and had many ham friends along the way. Not to mention at least a dozen other truckers from several other companies. We kept the 147.09 repeater on Cheaha Mountain, and the 145.35 at Tuscaloosa hot all night long as we made our way to our destination terminals.
He died on the job. He was at his Terminal in Birmingham, AL, waiting for the dock workers to get his trailer ready. They found him unconcious in the rest room. It was too late to help him.
