Howard was a good freind of hams in the St Louis area. He was a dedicated member of the Monsanto Radio Club, and DX100, WAS, QCWA member. He retired from Monsanto where he was a mechanical engineer.
Howard served in the Army Aircorp during WWII flying "Catalina Flying Boats" or PBYs. PBYs flew the East coast during the war years looking for Nazi subs.
As with many from his generation Howard was painfully modest, but with litte proding he would tell of his adventures. One of my favorite stories that Howard told was when he saved Thanksgiving day while stationed in Cuba. He flew to Florida to pick up a load of turkeys!
I shared many hobbies with Howard, flying, ham radio, bicycling, real estate, astronomy, and violin. Howard was thirty years older than me, I will alwasy consider it an honor to have known this Partiot from "The Greatest Generation"
