I only knew Mike & Stella for about 5 years, but we became so close and friendly that it felt like we knew each other for decades. We met one day on the air while both of us were on the road on 2m FM mobiling on our way to the Orlando Hamfest. Along the way we stopped and had lunch together. There we found out that we had a lot in common and a great friendship was born. We found out that we'd both been hams since our teenage years, for about 40 yrs + . We spent a lot of time together at that hamfest that year. Mike, Stella, myself and a friend all went out for dinner that night and had a great time. We swapped stories and memorable ham radio experiences late into the night.
Over the years, we both attended many more hamfests together and hung out with each other while there.
Mike and Stella are both VE's and they would generously give their time to attend our testing sessions in Naples, about 40 miles from their home. They were both very active with their home club too, Ft. Myers ARC, and the VE sessions there.
Mike touched many of the lives of the local hams by grading their test papers and signing their CSCE's.
Mike will be terribly missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his XYL and family.
