As the “Friends Remembered” admin for Eham.net I get to read and moderate countless recallings of friends and family who have gone silent key in our community. Every week I am touched by a new story and feel blessed that the people I know within the community are in good health. So when the day finally came for me to make this post I felt a deep sadness.
Webber Vollick, more often known to his friends and any stranger who was blessed with a meeting with him as Web was a man who one could never forget. I first met Web when I was about six years old, for you see I knew him in person and never had the pleasure of an on air contact. He was my neighbor up in Haliburton where I spend my summers.
Web was one of those older gentlemen who lived next door that you would go out of your way to respect and honor because when you spoke with him or saw him his presence commanded no less. Web was a softly spoken man who always had a poem or prayer or story to share with you, being careful to never repeat the same one twice. It was things like this about Web that made you respect him, made you cherish the fact that you knew him. His insights and recallings of his distinguished past were both entertaining and inspiring, after talking with Web, even for a mere minute, you felt enriched and better off for the experience.
Web has moved on to the next life having lived a full and accomplished life. When listening to his stories you would often get the impression that he had lived the lives of 100 men. If there is one thing you can say about Web, it is surely that if ever a noble and full life was lived, he was the one who lived it.
Web’s memory will always be cherished and his friends and family (myself as a friend included) are far better off for having had him in our lives. May you rest in peace Web; I will surely miss your stories, your smile, your wit and your very presence. The world is a bit sadder a place today with your absence.
