A very dear friend,WA9THM Linda Effland, 55, and a Elmer to very large group of Ham's in the Illinois, Indianna, and Kentucky area was taken from us on April 9th. The stories of the wonderful things that Linda did for Ham Radio are countless. She was instrumental in keeping the Radio Amatuer Downstate Illinois Organization (R.A.D.I.O.) going and the Tuesday night Net happening.
She was always there with a good word and encouragement for all even though she was personally suffering. Many Hams thought that they could not pass the test's required to be a Ham but she gave them the loving support and gentle prodding it took to step up to the Key and take the test. She was always the first to assign the great phonetics to the new liscense, since she was the desired first contact, when that ticket came in the mail.
In addition to the Ham Community she is missed by her Husband Robert 'Bob" Effland AI9H, sons Ronald and Gregory, and three grand children.
Linda, the pain is gone now and may you guide our radio waves to new and exciting recievers. We all LOVE you and are better for you being in our lives. 73 & 88
