Bernd was a real great Ham, full of good spirit. He died on cancer last night. He was one of my very best friends. I am deeply shocked. I dont know how to come over it.

Bernd was one of my first CW DX contacts, in early February of this year. Our too-short 30 minutes on 20m initiated an exchange of QSL's, notes and emails in which his technical competence and gentlemanly approach to our hobby were more than evident.
To those close to him as friends, my condolences; the amateur community has lost an exemplary man.

Bernd was one of the last real Hams full of Ham Spirit and a very good friend of mine. He lived in the neighbourhood of my parents´ home where I used to live when I was a newcomer. He was the one who really made me understanding what ham spirit is. He lived hamspirit himself and was always full of help, warm friendlyness and good advices. He often invited me into his shack and I was allowed to operate with his fantastic equipment. A great and appreciable chance for a newcomer like I was.
He help me out serveral times not only concernig amateur radio.
I am sure the "Ham world" will get a little bit colder without him.
Bernd we will always keep an honourable memory of You !
On may 19th, 2004 we had a longer CW conversation where we chatted over this and that. I still remember it as very pleasant and I would have strongly prefered to qsl via buero... Fritz, N6UK
