I meet Donn in Cincinnati in the 1970's, we were both member of the Cincinnati Repeater Association, GCARA, and RACES. While he was 15 years my senior, he was like a big brother. After Donn left Cincinnati for Skaneateles NY, I visited him a few times, the last time was about eight years ago, talked to him about three years ago. The strange thing was I was in his area the week after he died visiting my daughter (W2JEN) who is in college in Geneseo, I called him on his repeater (442.300) a few times and didn't get an asnwer and tried him at home with no luck...I now know why.
Amateur Radio lost one of the good guys, the world and his family lost friend.
I met Donn after he first came to Syracuse. He brought with him from Cincinnati valuable knowledge about ham radio public service, and about repeater operations. He was my age, roughly, and a longtime member of QCWA Finger Lakes Chapter 29. Here is a link to the QCWA tribute page. http://www.qcwa.org/w8jgp-sk.htme.
