Friend : Erik Roy (TI2NA)

Erik was very active on 6m and was the first TI to operate 6m and gave many 6m ops their first TI QSO. A graduate of Renselear Polytec, Erik was quite the experimenter. He had a low power UHF TV station (licensed by the GNR) where he would broadcast movies and satelite feeds for those to enjoy in his San Jose neighborhood. He made the first ever EME QSO from TI on 432 MHz. He was the prominent VHF technical person in the Central American area. He also recently retired the annual award given by the Costa Rica Orchid growers society for the best orchids, by winning 3 years in a row and had donated a new cup. At his estate in eastern San Jose he also raised excellent coffee and cut flowers for the European and North American markets. Eric built the original TI2NA 6m beacon and kept it going for many years. Hopefully the new beacon can continue to operate under his call.

Eric was one of the first stations from his country that I got on 50mhz F2 back in 1991, very sad to hear of his passing even though I only worked him once, I recognised his call right away, R.I.P

Eric was "Mr. 6 Meters" from TI and was always a great operator. He contributed much to the hobby and made many 6 meter operators very happy. May he rest in peace in the great DX land in the sky.

Friend : Erik Roy (TI2NA)

I first met Erik Roy while we went to school at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, 1956-1960. We became fast friends. together we built one of the first high power 6meter rigs for the RPI club station, W2SZ. We had great times together and my schoolmates and I from RPI will miss him greatly. I hope he is looking down on us and is happy where he is.
