Friends Detail

Friend : Rich High (W0HEP)

Founding member and Member Number 1 of Colorado QRP Club. An inspiration to many hams on the fun and inherent viability and cost effectiveness of QRP operations, Rich brought many of us to the joys of low power operating and CW. He was a regular at W0CQC Field Day and was always willing to share his experience with others. He died much too young.

Friend : Rich High (W0HEP)

It had been a few years since I exchanged emails with Rich. I don't know what prompted me to look him up again, but I happened on this page only a few weeks after his key went silent.

In the Late 70s and early 80s Rich was active with Denver Area Councel Explorer Post 73, a youth oriented ham radio club affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. He and a couple other adults (Fred House, Jim Reeb...calls?) were my first Elmers.

In 1979 or 80, Rich administered my novice code test, and proctored the Novice Written at his kitchen table. I also recall that he was the adult I went to for advice on how to deal with my first speeding ticket...the one I was too scared to tell my folks about.

Always ready with a big smile, and a kind word, the world will be less friendly place for Rich's passing. 73 OM.
