Lincoln "Link" Bent was a friend to me and to many others over the years. We both grew up in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Link and I, and his older sister, Perry (who was in my class), attended Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. I knew Perry as a classmate, and only knew of Link, back then, as her "kid brother."
I was reacquainted with Link after we got together on some used ham gear after my move to Maine, after 1979. We spent may hours reminiscing about our lives growing up in a very unique little town, and attending a very unique high school.
Link was always a good friend, and had a big heart; a heart that was ultimately to fail him sometime before Sunday, January 21, 2007, at the far-too early age of 52. Link was a hard worker all of his life and a dedicated father to Lisa, his daughter, and a long-time caregiver to his mother, Shirley. Link will be missed by his family, and his many friends both on amateur radio, and those of whom his life touched in the Portland/Naples area.
Sadly, Link passed away by himself. It was due to the diligence of Brian Lashua, K1AAM, to enable him to be found in a timely manner. Brian had tried repeatedly for several days to get Link to answer his door, to no avail. Finally, Brian, worried, called Link's daughter, Lisa, who entered his home only to discover her dad had passed on.
Link, formerly WA1PEY, became a Silent Key, as W1EMJ. We'll all miss you, Link, and your always friendly voice, until we again QSO on a local repeater, in a far better place. God Rest You, Brother. -Chris the Hodman
