Friend : Clark, William Dayne (W7VUF)

Dayne and I met on one of the local repeaters when he arrived in Utah. He was unshaven, long haired and had a gruff voice. Not someone who is initial appealing. However, something told me there was more to this man than looks. I was right. He became my little brother (He was 7 years younger than I) we became close friends and went every where together. He served the American Red Cross at 9-11 and became a changed man. At his funeral Friday, August 24, 2007 he was honored by the National American Red Cross for his many hour of service. All this because I took interest in him. Rest assured, he gave more than he received from me. I shall miss him dearly. He died of complications associated with cancer the very day I dropped him off after running him around on his errands.
73 Dayne until we meet on the other side.

Friend : Clark, William Dayne (W7VUF)

I was Daynes first friend when he moved to Utah and the last to see him in this life. He came as a Montana wildman with a full beard and hair down to his shoulders. He had a very gruff voice and was initially rejected by the local ham group. I looked in his eyes and saw something else. I took him under my wing as my little brother and introduced him to the ARES group and Red Cross. Dayne found his calling in life in public service. At his funeral on Friday, August 17, 2007 he was honored by hundreds from all over the country especially those he served with in the Red Cross. We were inseperable together as I am somewhat a maveric myself. We camped, when shooting, explored ghost towns and spent much time together. In 1995 he was diagnosed with cancer the sametime I experienced my 3rd heart attack. Both became invalids. We supported each other. I can still drive so I would take him on errands and an occation trip to eat. He was a great friend. I shall sorely miss him. The attached picture is him and I on one of our many outings, a camping trip to an abandoned mine area near the Ghost town of Jacob City, Utah. He is the short guy on the left. I am only 5'6". Though he was short physically he was a giant in my eyes.
