Derrick was a local Winnipeg ham and avid contester.
He was licensed at a very young age.
He was only 49 at the time of his passing and will be missed by the hams in Winnipeg and in the Contesting Community.
Contesting has lost one of its most ardent advocates. Derrick VE4VV (age 49) has passed away after a long illness.
Derrick was a hard core contester, most comfortable on CW. He captured many ARRL SS QRP CW awards and was a FIXTURE when it came to providing the VE4 multiplier - whether it was in SS, NAQP, Sprint, CQWW, WPX or many of the other contests in which he participated. He was a first class CW and phone op, though he preferred CW. Those of you who miss the VE4 mult in the next contest will feel his loss as much as we do.
73 om , your legacy lives on in the logs of the multitude.
Sorry to hear this. Never knew Derrick personally but he
was a great operator. Harris ex VE4AH
I had coffee with Derrick at a local mall not to long ago and was shocked at his passing.A good freind and great contester will be missed by all . Tom. Ve4HQ.
I had the privilege of not only knowing Derrick as a ham but also as a colleague professionally. Besides being an avid contester, Derrick was also a communications technologist with the City of Winnipeg, supporting the public safety departments in our City.
Working alongside Derrick, it was impossible to not catch the contesting bug.
You are already missed my friend!
