A 71 year-old Briton died tragically on January 22, 2008 when he fell a height of three storeys in George Borg Olivier Street in Rabat, Malta.
Alan Wright, a radio amateur, fell off a ladder while fixing an antenna. Police sources said he was rather unfortunate not to fall onto his own roof but into a shaft, ending up on the roof of a residence below. The accident happened at about 4 PM.
Mr Wright was married and had been living in Malta for over five years. He moved to Rabat only recently.
On Sunday mornings he often frequented the Malta Amateur Radio League in Attard and was last seen there on January 13, 2008. His call sign was 9H1AW.
An on-site inquiry was held and an autopsy will be performed. Police Inspector Nezren Grixti is heading investigations.

Alan and his wife Maureen (9H1JN) were a big help to us in 2006 when 8 members of the Texas DX Society visited Malta for a DXpedition and to participate in the ARRL DX Phone contest. They treated us like family. His kindness, help and friendship will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with dear Maureen and his fellow MARL members.
Alan was one of my first contact in the magic band. Beeing on a close distance we sometimes enjoyed talking about radio and dx. He was a friendly and helpful amateur radio operator. Vy 73 dear Alan and thanks for the nice bit of radio and life shared.
