Another OT has passed on.
He will be missed.
When I upgraded from Novice in the late 1970s.
Oliver (then W7WGW) was the first person I talked to
on the 2 meter band. He was responsible for getting
the first 2M repeater on Mingus Mt.
Through the 1980s, he organized Arizona's only
Amateur Swapmeet, in those days, near Flagstaff AZ.
For his efforts, he was chosen Arizona's Ham of the
Year in 1988.
Oliver was one of the first local hams I spoke to upon moving to AZ in 1992. I always enjoyed his company on the air, and his willingness to help. He was an excellent example of what our hobby should be, and will be missed by many! 73's, OM!
Years ago in the 1970's, when I was a new tech at KOLD TV in Tucson I would often talk on the phone with Oliver who was running the video board at KOOL TV in Phoenix. We received out network feed from them and sometimes we needed a switch of the feed. He was always helpful to this greenhorn on the other end of the line. A nice man. RIP W7AFC SK
