9/16/08 It is with much sadness that I must announce that William Stocker, N8LFR, of Bad Axe passed away. He will be greatly missed by all of us. The following is from michigansthumb.com.
William "Bill" Stocker, 83, of Bad Axe, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw.
William was born Sept. 17, 1924 in Dryden, to the late Donald and Ione (Hamlin) Stocker.
William "Bill" Stocker and Arlene Smith were united in marriage March 26, 1944 in Wisconsin. She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 2007.
He graduated from Dryden High School, Class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was self employed as a two-way radio repairman. Bill was a member of the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. He was council member for the City of Bad Axe from 1966 to 1974, at which time he became mayor until 1982, and was again a Councilman for the next 11 years. He was a former Bad Axe Area Firefighter. He was a life member of the Pigeon V.F.W. Post 2236 and Verona-Huron Masonic Lodge #365 F&AM. He was very active and held many officer positions in these organizations. Bill enjoyed deer hunting and was an amateur radio operator.
He is survived by two sons, Gerry (Elaine) Stocker of Bad Axe, and James Stocker of Clarkston; a daughter, Joy Krajenka of Bad Axe; two sisters, Margaret Glassford of Lapeer, and Mary Ellen Rosebush of Dryden; nine grandchildren, Dennis and Bill Stocker, Renee Anderson, Sherrie Begely, and Jon, Jeremy, Chris, Brian and Aaron Krajenka; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by a son, Donald Stocker.
