Gary Gompf passed away on Thursday January 22 as a result of a heart attack as he was driving from Batlesville, OK to Texas. He was the original owner of W7FG VINTAGE MANUALS for many years. Gary will be missed by his many friends.
Oh No :-(
I just bought an antenna from him a few months back.
We had spoke many times on 10 meter AM in the 80's & 90's.
Also on the phone when he worked for Philips Petroleum.
Geez, I was even invited to his house out in Utah.
I will not sleep well tonight thinking of Gary.:-(
May the Lord take care of you Gary!!!
We will Pray for you 'ol pal :-(

Gary also was an avid DX-er on VHF. Via EME I had the pleasure making contact via the ultimate DX-path; to the moon and back. Gary is now beyond the moon, rest in peace my friend!

In 1981 Gary and I did the CQ 160 meter contest together at a commercial radio site in the boondocks of Oklahoma. Gary had access to the site and permission from the owner. I climbed the 300 foot tower and attached our 1 wavelength loop we used for transmit. Gary and I both installed (2) beverage antennas across the pasture toward Europe and Japan. Friday morning we setup our Drake C line inside the 6 x 6 metal building at the base of the tower.
We operated all night long on Friday night and did pretty well from Oklahoma ... we were having fun. We both came home at daylight and got some rest, then were back on the air at a little before sunset Saturday night. About 3:00 am we heard some noises outside the building and became concerned ... we were in the middle of nowhere! We looked at each other, both visualizing some redneck rancher with a shotgun in his hands. We slowly opened the door and were greeted by about 12 large cows who had decided to check out those wires in their backyard !!
We must have laughed at each other for 15 minutes. W7FG will be missed.

Devastating news. I recently bought an antenna from Gary. I spoke to him on the phone and we exchanged several emails about antenna design etc. He was a real scholar and a gentleman. He'll missed by his many friends. Condolence to his family.

So sorry to hear that! I just called 1-800-807-6146 and ordered a manual from W7FG. Any details, please, on how he went?
He will be missed. He was always kind and helpful.
Very sorry to hear the news of Garys passing. Im using W7FG ladder line on my antenna. I never met the man or even got to work him on the air, but he provided a great service to many fellow hams. He will be missed.
What a shock it was to read about Gary's passing. I have known Gary for about 30 years and was at his Bartlesville house years ago to buy a radio. Used to talk with him occasionally on 75 meters. Gary had the gift that he could talk with anyone about anything, but especially radio. He was a wealth of knowledge. His W7FG ladder line antenna is probably the best on the market.
Gary, you will be missed ole friend. My best to your family. They will be in our thoughts and prayers.
