I still miss him every day.
I was privileged to have Wayne as a good friend for 50 years. He was a good and kind man, and one of the very best CW operators.
He will indeed be missed.
I too am proud to have called Wayne a friend for over 50 years. He was a year ahead of me in high school and was licensed about a year before I was. By the time I got on the air he was already an accomplished cw operator. After high school we went our separate ways but we could always manage a contact on 40 or 80 meters. He was a great operator and an even better friend.
Donnie Wayne was a good friend and a great C.W. operator.Every time I saw him he had a big smile on his face.He will be missed by the Ham community.
Wayne always had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed. One of the grand gentlemen of HAM radio...
It is hard to believe that Don who became a SK two years ago is no longer with us. I first met Don back in the early 50's when we were about 16 years old. This was before he was licensed but he was interested and was at a Field Day site in Kingsport, TN. I had been licensed for a year or so at the time and he told me in later years that he decided that day if "that guy could do it (pass the test) he could too". The rest is history. Don went on to become a great HAM friend to many all over the world. In 2006 I met Don again when looking for the local QCWA group in this area after moving here to retire. Don was President of the local chapter. Don found out I didn't have my station set up and insisted on getting some guys out to help me string up some wires and get back on the air. That happened so quickly it made my head spin. We worked each other on the air in many contests, visited at each others ham shack, went out to eat BarBQue together, etc. Before he passed away, Don gave me a beautiful chrome plated Vibroplex key that he said I might enjoy using. I will treasure his gift and his friendship as long as I am still around. We miss you old friend. Dick N4ARO
