Friends Detail

Friend : Harry M. Barrett (W8OQY)

Another of whom Tom Brokaw called "The Greatest Generation" has passed from the scene. Harry, age 91, was licensed in the late 1930s and held the same call ever since. He served in Patton's Third Army during WW2 and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Harry was an all-around ham: HF, DX, VHF, and Mobile, putting Whitehall, MI, on the ham radio map for decades. He was a good friend to all, quick with a joke or a helping hand. Many hams will recall the British accent he often assumed on the air in fun and in tribute to his UK heritage.
Harry and I worked together many years ago, and I'll miss him. He is survived by his wife Clara, who I'm sure would appreciate a card from his many friends around the world.

73 and RIP, Harry,

I'm very sorry to hear Harry passed away. Harry was a regular on weekend mornings on 160 meters for many years.

It's sad to see so many from what was the generation that helped our country and Ham radio to their peaks passing away.

Harry was witty, intelligent, and a wonderful person.
