Vince became a Silent Key this past Friday. A good Ham and friend he will be missed by all who knew him.
Vincent R. Amico, K8LQM, 84, of Steubenville, Ohio, died Friday, August 28, 2009, at Trinity West in Steubenville, Ohio.
He was born June 4, 1925, in Passaic, N.J.
He is the son of the late Michelle and Jennie Sancenito Amico.
Vince was also preceded in death by his infant son, Paul Amico.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Kasuba Amico whom he married Oct. 5, 1944; son, Anthony Amico (Susie) of Seattle, Wash.; daughters, Jo Berry (Jack) of Racine, Wis., and Judith Gaida (David) of Oriental, N.C.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Vince was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church, Steubenville, Ohio.
He was an usher and a bingo worker for many years at his former church, St. Peter's, in steubenville.
He served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Vince was an amateur radio operator, a member of the American Radio Relay League, a volunteer examiner coordinator with the ARRL, and a member of SWARC, TSRAC and FISTS Clubs. He was a long time participant on the Ohio Single Sideband Net (OSSBN), and checked into many CW traffic nets as well.
Vince retired from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in 1988, where he was the director of maintenance then continued on as a consultant for 10 more years.
