Friend : Bob Donnell (KD7NM)

Bob didn't show up for work and was found at his home. Bob was a great RF engineer and helped support many Emcomm groups in Snohmish county. His last activity was assisting the county's H1N1 mass vaccination clinics this last weekend.

I will miss him.

My call use to be WA6FCY and Bob was good friend of mine for many years. I knew him when I worked in Seattle. Last time I saw him was at Seapack. He let me ride his bike. Helped me with antennas. I haven't talked with him in some time. But I have many memories of Bob and his friend Tim Sanbeck that he worked with for manny years. I will miss his friendship. As Johnny Cash said "They all go away in the end. 73 and SK Bob jerry W7KO

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Bobs passing. I used to work with him at both SEA and Kalmus/AR. I'd always see him at the hamfests (Seaside was always fun). If I didn't know the answer to some technical problem, I could always count on Bob to have an answer. He inspired me to get into the digital modes. I'll miss him greatly!

Wow, you just never know when an acquaintance or a friend is going to pass on. Unfortunately it happens to those whom you accept as someone who will always be there. Bob and I were not close friends as he was to many, but he was the guy who always took time to stop and say Hi either at Seaside, the Mike & Key Flea market and a few other places around the Northwest. We would always trade a story or two. Mine were pretty routine and his were about a project he was working on that for the most part after a few minutes I had no idea what he was talking about. I can’t remember when I first met Bob but it had to be in the early 80’s at the Mike & Key Club when he was helping Tim get around. A truly great person that will be missed by many. RIP Bob.......

I was at a memorial service for Bob Donnell Saturday evening. At the end we were asked for stories about Bob, snapshots of the way we saw and remembered him. My mind was blank. I'd just found out the day before and was still coming to terms. A memory came to me this morning though, and here it is:

As many people noted, Bob was patient, knowledgeable, able to explain, willing to help. He also had a unique and fun sense of humor. I'd dithered around for quite a while about putting a mobile unit in my vehicle, but the antenna was a problem. It had to clear my garage door. I didn't want a mag mount, and retractables are pricey and so on. Bob had been champing at the bit to start punching holes in my roof, and finally told me it was time to 'man-up and start parking outside.' That captures him for me.
