Robert Elliot Anderson, 87, of Roanoke, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2011. He was born in Roanoke on March 29, 1924 to the late Walter C. and Myrtis T. Anderson. He was a member of Colonial Presbyterian Church, a World War II veteran and received the first US Army annual MARS trophy for Outstanding MARS for member year 1969. He was the founder and owner of Radio Communications for 60 years. He was also a lifelong member of the Roanoke Valley Amateur Radio Club, K4UMK.
Bob was one of the truely good guys in ham radio. He didn't have an unkind word about anybody.
He supported the Roanoke Valley ARC in so many ways, from cooking the great meals at Field Day to locating parts for the club repeaters. His shop was available for the local hams to tinker with their equipment. When the club didn't have a program on meeting night, Bob would pull together one about the latest in communications.
I worked for Bob for a couple of years and learned so much about electronics. It was a great experience.
We'll miss him.
