Gene was a great ham guy and served our club, Jefferson Barracks ARC for many years in just about every capacity I can think of. He was my Elmer and brought me into ham by show and tell method. Over five years,I learned to do many things with a ra dio including fixing them...as long as it wasn't a major issue. We placed a pic of Gene on the club website,www.QRZ.com/K0ZFKwith a brief story. Everyone should read it.
Gene was one of the founders of a great club, Jefferson Barracks ARC.
As such, he held every leadership position and did every job he was ever asked to do. We had about 80 members at one point and slipped to 4 when I finally agreed to take over in 2004.
We came back to 24 members but had to put the club to bed for awhile. Gene wouild be very happy to know the club is now coming back once again. We antipate renewing many activities over the winter, 2012-2013. Gene mentored me into my Novice test and continued thereafter. I had a ton of fun going by his home and tinkering or working contests. We need more folks like him. Here's the best story: Gene was a certified chemist. He went back to school nights after work in his forties and earned high grades in electronics just to be able to teach others. He was a remarkable fellow I'm glad to have known.
