Larry became a SK last week. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His wife Sue (K6SUE) wrote the following on the www.w6omf.org website:
A Message to all from Sue, K6SUE:
Chief Lawrence (Larry) Richard Hogue (USAF, Retired), W6OMF
Larry passed away Friday, June 29th, 2012 due to complications from open heart surgery.
It was his wish to be cremated with no memorial service.
Because he is retired military, his ashes will be taken to the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
“I’ll miss the love of my life” Sue
Larry was one of a kind.
He was a great ambassador for Weak Signal
(VHF) operating and was the primary
representative for NORCAL SWOT. His fall
gatherings at the Runt Ranch were a very
special event for all Hams to enjoy. He
enjoyed ham radio to the fullest and the many
friends and associations it brings. It was a privilege to have known and met him in my Ham
life. He will be missed.
Never had the pleasure of meeting Larry in person but talked with him a few times on his 2 meters SSB net on Sunday night and just knew he was a great guy. Conditions for radio should be great where he's at now.
Larry has been a good friend for 30+ yrs and I will miss him. My sincerest condolences to Sue as she was truly the love of his life as well. Rest in peace old friend. SK
Gentlemen, I can't say it any better. He was one of those one-in-a-million people with whom you so rarely cross paths in life, and you are likely better for it. His style, humor and optimism were quite remarkable. A genuine good person and ham who will be missed for many years to come.
Grip-N-Grin, OM! :-)
My heart goes out to Sue, K6SUE. Yes, Larry was one of a kind. A funny, smart, friendly, good guy who seemingly loved the world and Amateur Radio. Will miss all the "Gathering of the Clan" events and hope that SWOT can keep NORCAL going in his memory.
