RAYMOND E. WELCH
Raymond E. Welch of Elgin Raymond E.
Welch, 93, passed away at home on
Friday, Aug. 24, 2012. He was born on
Sept. 11, 1918, in Elgin the son of
Elbert and Julia (nee Fehrman) Welch.
Raymond was a lifelong resident of
Elgin. He was a police officer for the
City of Elgin for 20 years, retired and
then worked for Biggers Chevrolet from
1964 to 1972, and then he worked for the
Kane County Forest Preserve as a ranger
at the Binnie Forest Preserve in Dundee
until 1988. He was a licensed pilot and
took many aerial photos of Elgin, many
of which are featured in the Elgin
Historical Museum. Raymond belonged to
the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, and
was an avid HAM radio operator. He is
survived by his loving wife, Vera Welch
(nee Campbell), to whom he had been
married to for 55 years; and
grandchildren, Jason Welch of South
Elgin and Elizabeth Welch of Crystal
Lake. Also surviving are Kim Swanson and
Kelly VanWinkle. He was preceded in
death by his parents; son, Raymond E.
Welch Jr.; and a brother, Harvey.
Funeral services will be held on
Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. in the
Wait-Ross- Allanson Funeral and
Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center
St., Elgin. Burial will follow in Bluff
City Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be
held on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the
time of services in the chapel. For
