Friend : Dr. Bennett Basore (W5ZTN)

Dr. Bennett Basore, W5ZTN of Stillwater Okla passed away after a stroke on July 7, 2001. Bennett was a retired Electrical Engineering Professor.
He was active in the Oklahoma Phone Emergency Net for many years as manager and net control. He had operated the station W5YJ at OSU for many years.

Bennett will be remembered as a Gentlemen's Gentleman, A very knowledgeable engineer, and most of all as a wise, loyal, and trusted friend.

He remarried on June 17, 2001, and went on an Alaskan Cruise Honeymoon with his bride Linda. He was very happy about moving from his apartment to a house where could put up antennas and have his own station. Sadly, he did not have time to realize his dream.

Good Bye Bennett, you are missed and will be long remembered.....

I had the privilege of working with Bennett during the Solar Car races which traveled through Missouri for several years. He was a fine gentleman.

Sure sorry to hear of his passing.

I was saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Bennett Basore - W5ZTN. I first met Bennett in the 1970s when I was having legal problems concerning my ham tower. During the District Court proceedings in Tulsa, I needed an expert witness to testify about electronics, towers, and the advantage of tower heights for certain conditions. Several people I had asked declined to get involved in the proceedings but when Bennett heard about what was happening, he volunteered to come over to Tulsa from Stillwater and provide the testimony I needed. I always appreciated his help. I tried to pay him, he would not take money. I had a ham radio store at the time and I offered to help him get whatever he wanted or needed, in return for his assistance. He just smiled and and told me he was happy to help.
A previous writer remembered Bennett as a Gentlemen's Gentleman and I could not have come up with a better title for him.
He will be missed.
