Ellis Romer, W7LFX, passed-away on July 2, 2001. Ellis was born in 1926 and was a member of the Raytheon Catalina Radio Club (Formally Hughes). He had retired from Hughes in 1989 and was enjoying time with his family, ham radio and steam trains.
He was a long time proponent of VHF/UHF and microwave operation, primarily being active on 1296 MHz. Ellis was on 1296 MHz almost every night at 8 PM until ill health forced him to away from the shack. He was a Life member #74 of AMSAT (thirteenth amateur to contact another radio operator via amateur satellite in each of the 50 states),
In addition Ellis was a skilled machinist whose other hobby was building model live steam locomotives from scratch. He also found time to enjoy the Tucson Symphony. He was a 50 year season-ticket holder of the Tucson Symphony.
Ellis always had time to help others with technical problems. Ellis is greatly missed by all.
