Jimmy, W2PIG (ex-KB3WC) was a true
friend and a great person to know. When
I upgraded from Novice to Technician
Plus, and purchased a 2m HT to finally
"talk to the locals", Jimmy was one of the
first people that I talked with. He was
always very calm and reserved, and I
consider him as one of my first elmers.
Shortly after making his acquaintance on
the air, he invited me to his home, where
he gave me some extra "stuff" he had
laying around...a 2m dipole, a 12V power
supply that he had made (which I still
have), his worn-out Ten-Tec PM-1 (which
I restored), and even a wooden plaque
with MY callsign on it, that he had made
in his spare time. My son has that
plaque in his bedroom.
Jimmy will always be remembered for his
kindness and his gentle, albeit sarcastic
humor...like telling me he had to turn his
Ringo Ranger to hear me better...and as
a rookie, I fell for it. He had the best
laugh out of that joke.
Miss you, Jim. Thanks for being a friend.
