Received word today from Joe Rudi NK7U that our mutual friend Carl Cook, AI6V, lost his battle with cancer. Carl was a great DX'r and Contest Operator whom I first met many years ago when he was co-owner of a ham radio store in Concord, CA. Visited his well appointed station on Tower Hill with Joe years ago. Good guy. RIP OM
I first met Carl back in the late 60's when he was just a technician class op. Had a hell of a 6 mtr station back then. Then he upgraded to extra about the same time I did and the rest as we say is history. A hell of a contester with his P40V operation.
RIP
The amateur community has lost a great gentleman. I've known Carl since about 1975.
Carl, you are being missed already.
Contest QSOs were brief, but always included a quick "hi" & you could hear the enthusiasm in his voice. He lit up when seeing you at Dayton & once more the enthusiasm came through his handshake. The true spirit of ham radio resided in Carl; I'll miss him.
Just now learned of Carl's passing. That is sure sad to hear. Worked him many times in contests from P40V or his home QTH, and even bought a rig from him once. Will miss seeing him on the bands. A truly great operator.

I only knew him from Contest QSOs, great operator and always friendly - made contesting enjoyable, he was my first P4 contact many years ago. Always looked forward to working his station. RIP Sir and give my regards to all the great hams you are with now.
