Don was net control on the Helo
,issionary net for 53 years. He was a
World War two veteran and flew navy
bombers in the Pacific. At age 90 his
heart finally gave out. Soon all our
World War two vets wsill be gone. SWe
have one other world war two vet on the
Helo Net, KB7ORF, Hoyt, in Pinehurst
Idaho. He is 90 years old and was a
gunner on a B-24 bomber in the Pacific
Back in the 70s and 80s, my wife and I were missionaries in Honduras. We had no telephone service where we lived and I checked into the Halo Net often looking for someone to run a phone patch back home for us. You could always count on Don being there as net control. He ran a good net and was always cheerful and helpful. Though I never met Don in person, I feel as though I have lost a long-time friend. He will be missed.
