Friend : Ed Callaway (N4EC)

Ed was my jr. high school science teacher in 1952 and taught me morse code and Helped me get my novice license in 1952 at age 13 in Pensacola, Florida. A year later I passed my general class license in Mobile, Alabama and today in San Antonio, Texas have the same call sign. Years later Ed became an Mechanical Engineer. He was a very good C.W. operator and participated in C.W. traffic nets.Sadly he died of advanced Alzheimer's for which there is no cure. Two of my friends have spouses who have Alzheimer's -- Bill Cooey, K4QOJ whose spouse Sue, K4BDF has advanced Alzheimer's and Bill Spain, W4BGG has a spouse with Alzheimer's.

Ed Callaway had a beautiful twin engine aircraft around 15 years ago and loved to fly. I will be forever grateful to Ed that he introduced me to amateur radio, which I have enjoyed here in the U.S. and in Saudi Arabia (guest operator at HZ1AB) and in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, licensed as YB0AWU/YB2. Ed's wife Pat, also a radio amateur notified me of his death.
