I just saw today that a friend, and professor of mine from long ago, passed away in early June.
///
Professor Arthur W. Spear, WB5GLJ, of San Marcos, Texas, who taught physics at (then) Southwest Texas State University (SWTSU - San Marcos, Tx) for thirty years, passed away on June 3rd, 2015.
///
When I was a teenager, growing up in San Marcos in the 1960s, Professor Spear and his wife Ruth Ellis Spear, were stalwarts in the local science community. Mrs Spear taught science in San Marcos Junior High and her husband was in the Physics Dept at SWTSU (I had them both - Mrs Spear was more gentle .... Professor Spear could be rather demanding).
///
Of their three kids I was in school with two of them ... their middle child, Sandra, and I were in the same class (1968) and their youngest, Donald, and I were in Boy Scouts together.
///
Makes me sad to find I've lost another old friend (seems to be happening more often these days). (I'm thinking of a joke that Professor Spear told me long ago .... but I'll just think about it and smile.)
