Friends Detail

Friend : Jonathan Gol (N5AWR)

Jonathan Gol was a long time amateur radio operator who orginally became interested in amateur radio through his father. Jonathan enjoyed the hobby and tried at every turn to inspire and influence his friends to become licensed hams too... as so it was with me and my wife Diane (KC5RBV). From DXing to just simple HT communications Jonathan always tried to find ways to inject the use of his ham radio into every sport he indulged in... so it would not be uncommon to see him with some kludged rig mounted on his bicycle, hang glider, or velcroed to his jogging shirt.. he even tried to figure a way to use it underwater. On October 26th Jonathan died from a tragic scubadiving-related accident while diving in Jackson Blue spring in Florida. Jonathan was my close family friend for over 15 years. I will miss him hollering my or Diane's call across the radio, all the great times we shared, and the many late evenings spent discussing radio technologies, methods, and chatting around state. Jonathan was a tremendous friend who was loyal, honest, incredibly intelligent, and loved to help and share without qualification. I only wish that I could get one last call ... KC5RBX.. N5AWR.. KC5RBX.. N5AWR.. just so I could tell him how much he will be missed. God Bless your spirit Jonathan. Diane and I already miss you a lot!
