Charles, aka Charlie Winder Jr. was my
cousin. While not real active in recent
years, he was a very good operator,
using both HF and VHF bands. We took
our novice and tech licenses, along
with a third friend, all together. I
ended up with a lousy Novice call,
kb5fze, but his was worse...kb5fzh!
After a few months we upgraded to Tech,
and he became N5MRV, for several years.
Once the vanity program came about, he
took the call of a close boyhood pal,
K5FNN, a General ticket.
Charlie and wife Jane Lee raised 3
wonderful daughters that I had the real
pleasure of teaching in school. He is
survived also by his Mom Jean(99 yrs
old) and his sister Carol. He will be
missed. RIP, Cuz!
Charlie,
Missed by all in the Thibodaux Amateur Radio Club, a fixture at the meetings and always a joy to talk to or meet up with.

Charles and I were novices together here in
Lafayette, La in the very early 1960's. We
were both active in the Lafayette club and
participated in field day and other club
activities. I had totally lost track of him
until running across him at the Lafayette
hamfest about 10 or so years ago. It was fun
renewing memories with him. I am sorry to
hear of his death. 73 & SK, Art K5FNQ
