Friend : KEN R STEIGERWALD (KB9ZPD)

Ken was a great guy and a good ham. He
loved the hobby and was a regular on the
local 2m freqs. He also was able to
upgrade to general and enjoy HF and was
very active in chasing DX. Ken was one
of the main reasons I became active in
ham radio and he will be missed.

Ken was a Great man, and really cared for
people. Chances are if you were on 2m Ken was
out there waiting to chat!

Sadly I did not get to know Ken as much as
others but the time I did spend with him I am
grateful for. You will be missed Kenny!

Ken was a fixture on 2m FM as well and would always have something to say during afternoon drive time. The last time I saw him was at our last FD with The McHenry Co Grid Rats in 2009. Look up W9VB on QRZ for another pic of Ken. The Aether is quiet without your voice Ken. May you have more adventures on the other side.

Everyone has an Elmer that gets them into the hobby.
Sometimes they realize who it is and sometimes it's very
subtle with gentle nudges from another ham. Regardless I
know without uncle Kenny (as we called him) Erich
wouldn't be the person he is today with a keen interest in
everything amateur radio. Like Paul I met him late in life
and it was after his stroke. Despite his memory loss from
the stroke he wasn't discouraged from using his radio. He
would talk to you for a while and then all of a sudden you
could tell he knew once again who he was taking to and
we could share a common story or two. I appreciate, and
Kenny does too from heaven, that Erich is taking the time
to honor his friend who he misses a lot. In the span of
eternity our lives on Earth are but a blink of our eye.
Knowing that, take the time like Kenny did to make a
difference in a young man's life like he did with Erich.
Ham radio is truly the greatest hobby in the world!

Uncle Ken was a wonderful friend and Ham pal. I first met Ken on the 27MHz band and talked to him for years on it. When many of the locals got their ham tickets Ken did the same and his ham radio adventure began. It was a terrific ride for Ken as he sold all the CB gear and transformed it into ham radios. Ken never looked back and became a good ham operator and enjoyed the hobby very much.

Ken loved ham radio and embraced it with his whole heart and mind. He worked hard to upgrade so he could work HF. He did several upgrades to his antenna farm and was very proud of his station.

You could always could always count on a good QSO with "Uncle Kenny" and he loved to talk about the "good olde days" on the CB band and his various employment positions over the years. Ken loved to rag chew and he always had great life stories to share with all.

We all miss calling on the 2 meter for Uncle Kenny to ride along with us in our mobiles as he did often once he became retired. Ken always was there for you to keep you company on your ride to your destination.

73 and godspeed to our Uncle Kenny now a ham in the heavens.
